CHISELDON’S Jonny May is set to miss out on England’s final game of the World Cup after not being named in the matchday squad.

The former Royal Wootton Bassett wing came off at half time during England’s 33-13 defeat to Australia, with images of him on the sidelines with his left knee heavily bandaged.

Saturday’s defeat left England unable to make it out of the group stages and head coach Stuart Lancaster has shuffled the pack, making nine changes ahead of their game with Uruguay at the City of Manchester Stadium.

Bath’s Sam Burgess is also absent from the matchday squad, while fellow club teammates Anthony Watson and George Ford start.

Jonathan Joseph slips to the bench, along with former Melksham full back Mike Brown.

“Brad Barritt (arm) and Courtney Lawes (knee) are not available this weekend and Ben Morgan (dead leg) and Ben Youngs (ankle) will not be able to train fully until Thursday,” said Lancaster.

“This is an opportunity for us to finish the tournament with a strong performance against Uruguay and a chance for the likes of young players such as Jack Nowell and Henry Slade to play in a World Cup.

“We owe it to ourselves and the supporters who have been brilliant throughout.

“This is an important game for rugby in the north of England and we want to give those people who have been looking forward to this game something to cheer about.”
