SWINDON Flames Juniors ran out 12-5 winners in their re-arranged fixture against Oxford at the Liberty Ballroom.

The previous meeting of the two teams resulted in hard-fought 5-5 draw, but this time the Flames had too much.

The opening period was played at break-neck speed with both teams vying for an advantage. After a period of scrappy play with numerous half chances, Robert Bean and Dylan Jackson went close for Swindon. Oxford broke the deadlock with a long shot from their own defensive zone.

Swindon were able to equalise quickly through Liam Coleman and pushed for a lead only to leave an Oxford player an easy chance in front of goal leaving Swindon trailing 2-1. A diving Jade Kenealy save denied Oxford a two-goal cushion before Coleman scrambled the ball over the line to leave the score tied at 2-2 at the end of the first period.

Swindon came out flying at the start of the second period and two goals by Coleman gave them a 4-2 lead within a couple of minutes of the restart.

Oxford responded immediately with two goals of their own to level the game 4-4 with 13 minutes remaining.

The contest again turned in Swindon’s favour when Coleman picked up a loose ball mid rink and finished confidently to give them a 5-4 lead. Coach Tristan Ward then changed the lines to try and cement Swindon’s advantage and two quick goals by Coleman and Ward from rebounds off long shots by Richard Wilson and then a Coleman goal from a Alexander Quant pass gave Swindon a comfortable 8-4 lead.

Oxford then showed their frustration and ran into penalty trouble. Swindon took full advantage of their man advantage and further goals from Coleman (2) Harry Llewellyn and Wilson with a single reply from Oxford saw Swindon end the game 12-5 winners.
