SWINDON Wildcats head coach Aaron Nell has a target on his mind for Christmas and it’s not a new pair of skates from Santa.

The Link Centre chief would not be drawn on what the goal is that has been set for his players but believes they are on course, and could even exceed their aims, after a run of three wins in their last four outings.

Having settled down into some sort of rhythm after the disruption of Stevie Lyle stepping down as head coach and two of their imports being changed mid-season, now Nell is keen to continue that role and ensure that Swindon can enjoy their Christmas party by reaching their pre-season target.

“We need to keep on chipping away,” said Nell, whose side took a win and defeat from weekend games with Manchester and Bracknell.

“This is a crazy league and we have a target for what we want before Christmas and I still believe we can get higher than that target.

“If we get to where we want to be by Christmas then we are in a good spot.

“We are always better after Christmas. Over the years we have got a bit of a flow and we’ll be better after a Christmas break.

“However, it is important to get some momentum before Christmas.

“We have got some very good games coming up but we have all had a target for a month or so now and we have a month left and if we get there that will be a great achievement.

“We have little blocks and the last block we just missed but we have a longer block this time and we are on track.

“It is important to keep taking each game at a time and I think we are good enough to exceed that target.

“If we get where we want to be then we can have a nice Christmas.

“We need to enjoy playing hockey and right now we are.”

Swindon face a tough test this Saturday when they play host to Telford Tigers, who are starting to find their form from last season having won their last three games.

“We’re over Sunday’s defeat and we’re going to build for a game against the best team in the league right now,” added Nell.

“Telford are flying and are back to last year’s form and it is going to be a tough game.”
