SWINDON head coach Sean Lynn was left disappointed not to come away from Salisbury with anything to their name after suffering a narrow 20-12 defeat on the road.

The Greenbridge Road outfit headed to south Wiltshire to face second-placed Salisbury on the back of three straight wins in South West One East.

Despite the tough test that awaited them, Swindon held their own, falling behind to a penalty before Joe Sheppard hit back with an unconverted try for the visitors.

Salisbury skipper Josh Lane replied with an unconverted try from a five-metre scrum as they took advantage of Connal Knott being in the sin-bin, before a late penalty gave the home side a 13-5 lead at the break.

Knott was able to redeem himself in the second half when he went over the whitewash to move Swindon within a point but Green scored his second try late on to secure the win for the home side.

“I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t come away with anything from the game,” said Lynn.

“When we were 13-12 down we were under pressure and they were under pressure and the difference was that when we made it into their 22, we didn’t come away with anything, whereas they scored a try when they made it into ours.

“At this level it is a matter of small margins and I thought we should have at least come away with a losing bonus point.

“We have a week off now, which doesn’t really suit us because, historically, we don’t react well after a break.

“We play Leighton Buzzard next and they conceded 50 points at home to Newbury because they are apparently having injury problems.

“The week off gives them a chance to get a few of those players back.

“With the scheduling during February, it makes it hard to get any momentum but I am happy with how the team are playing.”
