LAWRENCE VIGOUROUX – 7

Pulled off some good saves when the score was still 0-0 and will be disappointed not to finish with a second clean sheet in a row to his name.

BRADLEY BARRY – 7

Looked assured both in attack and defence. The 3-5-2 formation seems to suit him. Another encouraging display.

NATHAN THOMPSON (CAPT) – 7

Almost gifted the U’s the lead with a sloppy back-pass when it was still goalless but was otherwise assured as the sweeper.

RAPHAEL BRANCO – 6

Good enough on his return from injury and not much sign of ring-rust. Will probably be grateful his comeback game was against Colchester.

JORDAN TURNBULL – 7

Solid defensively and did his bit in attack too. Got a rare assist to his name with a lovely cross for Ajose’s second goal.

JAMES BROPHY – 7

Left wing-back is probably not his natural position but showed some nice touches and plenty of pace. Luke Williams could have asked for much more.

ANTON RODGERS – 7

Always hungry to get on the ball and made his team tick in the early stages before being subbed on the hour mark.

MICHAEL DOUGHTY – 9

Two cracking finishes to open his account for the club. Bundles of energy and will be a very handy addition for the remainder of the season.

ELLIS IANDOLO – 6

Thrust in for a rare start and was neat and tidy without doing anything spectacular. Got an hour before being subbed but the game time will benefit him.

JONATHAN OBIKA – 7

Ran himself into the ground and plenty of good work off the bal but it is his strike partner who has the knack of getting into the goalscoring positions.

NICKY AJOSE – 8

Two clinical finishes showed his class. The first came as Colchester were getting on top. Not happy to be subbed as it denied him the chance of a hat-tick.

SUBSTITUTES:

LOUIS THOMPSON - 7

(For Iandolo, 62) Bags of energy with forward runs and showed no signs of the injury that has denied him a comeback game for so long.

DRISSA TRAORE - 6

(For Rodgers, 67) Introduced just after the U's goal to stiffen things up in midfield. Did OK after a while out.

JERMAINE HYLTON - 5

(For Ajose, 77) Got into some good positions but looks to be a bit short on confidence at the moment.

Subs not used: Ty Belford, Lee Marshall, Jordan Young, Josh Cooke.
