LUKE Williams was delighted to see Swindon Town find their scoring boots again as they thumped bottom side Colchester United 4-1 this afternoon.

Town have drawn a blank in their last three outings and had only picked up two points of the last 12 available in League One but showed their ruthless streak again at the Colchester Community Stadium.

There were braces apiece for striker Nicky Ajose and on-loan midfielder Michael Doughty and Williams says seeing the net bulge again was the most pleasing aspect of the trip to Essex.

“I think to get back to scoring was very satisfying. We went a couple of games not hitting the back of the net, so that was a relief,” Williams told BBC Wiltshire.

"We know that Nicky is never going to be long without scoring because of his record of goals over the years.

"For Michael, I am really pleased because it has looked like he has been trying to find room on the edge of the box in the last few weeks to strike and that will give him the confidence to keep doing it.”

Ajose broke the deadlock for Town 10 minutes before half-time just as Colchester looked like getting on top of the contest.

Williams reckons that put a big dent in Colchester’s spirit and meant they had to go for broke as they attempted to climb of the bottom of the table and that allowed Town to get two more unanswered goals before the hour mark.

"I'm sure scoring first was a very key moment in the game because it gives you that sinking feeling when you are the bottom and you concede the first goal. I think that was probably pivotal,” added Williams.

“I did see more of the control and then I thought we lost it a little bit towards the end and I give credit to Colchester for that because they did come out fighting in the second half and put a lot of players forward into the attack and really committed to it.

“We did lose a little bit of control of the game but on the flip side we probably found a little bit more space higher up the pitch.”
