COLCHESTER United chief Kevin Keen admitted his team were simply not good enough as Swindon Town ensured their winless run in League One stretched to a 16th game on Saturday.

The rock bottom U’s matched Town early on at the Colchester Community Stadium but Nicky Ajose’s goal 10 minutes before half-time proved a turning point and the hosts went on to trail 3-0 before the hour mark.

A Joe Edwards goal did at least give the U’s something to show for their efforts, while Town keeper Lawrence Vigouroux was kept busy throughout the afternoon.

Keen, who is still seeking his first league win as manager after taking over from Tony Humes just before Christmas, took heart from that attacking promises but conceded his team were still well beaten.

Colchester have now just taken three of the last 36 available points in the league and are eight adrift of safety.

“I’m really disappointed. We didn’t defend well enough and we didn’t play well enough,” said Keen.

“We created some good chances and the keeper made some good saves but we let in some poor goals. There was a bit of a malaise before I came in and it returned a bit today.

“We weren’t very good - I’m not too happy and I can see why the supporters weren’t too happy either and giving me stick, so it’s fair enough.

“It’s very difficult when you lose 4-1 at home when we’re in the position we’re in.”
