SWINDON Town have suspended Drissa Traore, Jeremy Balmy and Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill after the trio were pictured allegedly inhaling nitrous oxide gas.
Screengrabs taken from a Periscope stream, which appear to show Drissa Traore, Jeremy Balmy and defender Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill inhaling nitrous oxide, which is recreationally known as ‘laughing gas’ or ‘hippy crack’, have emerged on Twitter.
Town have begun an internal investigation into the matter and confirmed that the trio will not be picked to play whilst the process is completed.
A statement posted on the club’s official website read: “Swindon Town football club have today suspended Drissa Traore, Jeremy Balmy and Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill with immediate effect.
“The club have already started an internal investigation into the trio’s recent conduct and they will not be considered for selection during this process.
“Swindon Town will be making no further comment until the investigation is complete.”
Footage of Traore, Balmy and Ormonde-Ottewill emerged a day after Luke Williams’ side were beaten 2-0 at Oldham Athletic in League One – a defeat which stretched their winless run to six matches.
Nitrous oxide, which is commonly used to relieve pain during dental procedures or to whip cream, is commonly inhaled using whipped cream dispensers and balloons and causes feelings of euphoria and dizziness, as well as fits of laughter.
Inhaling laughing gas is not illegal but the law prohibits its sale to anyone under the age of 18 and consuming substantial amounts carries a risk of unconsciousness or death from a lack of oxygen.
