JORDAN Turnbull has praised the speed at which on-loan goalkeeper Jake Kean has settled into Swindon Town’s style of play.

Kean only arrived at the club a fortnight ago on a seven-day emergency loan from Premier League side Norwich City after back-up keeper Tyrell Belford joined Town number one Lawrence Vigouroux on the injury list.

The Norwich stopper, who has to have to loan spell formally extended each week, was thrust straight into the limelight at his new club and has played all three matches since his arrival, recording a first clean sheet in last weekend’s 1-0 win at home to Chesterfield last Saturday.

Town goalkeepers tend to see much more of the ball than most as the team like to play out from the back whenever possible and defender Turnbull, himself on loan at the County Ground from Southampton, has been impressed with how swiftly Kean has adapted to their tactics.

“It’s unfortunate what’s happened to the two previous keepers but Jake has come in and been fantastic,” Turnbull told BBC Wiltshire.

“He has come into a team where he has to play out from the back, he’s obviously not used to that, but he has bought into that and done his job really well.”

Another loanee who has caught Turnbull’s eye since joining the Town ranks is midfielder Michael Doughty.

The 23-year-old only had two senior career goals to his name before arriving at the County Ground from Queens Park Rangers during the January transfer window but has hit the back of the net five times in his 18 Town appearances so far.

“Michael enjoys that side of the game. He comes alive in those areas and likes to get a shot off,” added Turnbull. “He is another one who has been fantastic since he has come into the club and he is such a hard worker.”
