PURTON captain Aaron Lee believes that his side are entering a decisive period in their campaign.

Lee’s villagers, who sit third in the table after a promising start to the 2016 season, are set to undergo a rigorous test of their credentials this weekend when they make the trip to unbeaten league leaders Trowbridge and they follow that up by hosting second-placed Marshfield seven days later.

In two weeks’ time, Purton will have reached the halfway stage of the current campaign and skipper Lee believes that how his team fares in the coming weeks will provide a major hint as to which half of the table they will find themselves in come September.

“We play Trowbridge on Saturday, then we play Marshfield, who are second, and then we start again and play Swindon and Westbury,” said the Purton captain, whose team beat Devizes by 99 runs last Saturday.

“We’ve got four really big games coming up and I think it will give us a big indication of how the season is going to go.

“But it should be good fun, too – we’re looking forward to these games.

“Trowbridge won the league comfortably last year and they’re a really good side. We went there last season and got beat quite convincingly (a 172-run defeat).

“I know their captain (Mike Reynolds) is a good player, he usually opens the batting and bowls too, and he’s played some Minor Counties cricket as well.

“Xander (Pitchers, Purton overseas signing) knows their overseas guy (Brendon Louw) quite well, so I’m sure he’ll be able to tell us about him.

“It’s going to be tough but we’re in good form and we’re going to go there and see what we can do.”

Trowbridge registered their sixth victory in seven games by beating Malmesbury last weekend.
