AN IMPRESSIVE all-round team display fired the Swindon Robins to a domineering victory in their first meeting for 19 days as they swept aside the Lakeside Hammers tonight.

Riding for the first time since their win at the Leicester Lions on June 4, all seven members of Alun Rossiter’s septet claimed a heat victory at the Abbey Stadium to keep Swindon’s push for the Elite League play-offs on track.

Thursday evening’s meeting got off to a stuttering start, with heat one suffering two unsatisfactory starts, the first of which saw Hammers guest Craig Cook handed a 15m penalty for riding into the tapes.

The spoils were shared when that race eventually got under way and there was more drama to follow in heat two as, after arriving at the start line with seconds to spare, Charles Wright romped to victory but his fellow reserve Stefan Nielsen suffered a breakdown at the tapes and failed to get going.

Josh Grajczonek battled his way past Richard Lawson to nick third place and support Nick Morris’ race win, finally breaking the deadlock and nosing the hosts two points ahead at 10-8, but Nielsen broke down again in heat four as the Hammers’ Edward Kennett dominated to tie things up once again.

In the fifth race of the evening, Lakeside’s Lewis Bridger and Lewis Kerr got themselves in a muddle early on, allowing Rohan Tungate and Wright to take control and rack up the meeting’s first 5-1 triumph.

Morris’ heat six tumble prevented him from backing up Sedgmen’s impressive heat victory but Grajczonek and Doyle made up for that missed opportunity by romping to a maximum against Kennett and Lawson to stretch the home side’s lead to eight points.

In the next heat, Nielsen’s equipment finally allowed him to let loose and the Swindon reserve enjoyed a stunning renaissance as he crossed the line first, meaning every Robins rider had a race win to their name, whilst Sedgmen was second, sealing another maximum and making it 30-18 to Rossiter’s troops.

However, Lakeside were far from ready to roll over and in heat nine, Kennett took full advantage of the tactical ride as he dominated whilst Mear was third, with the visitors recording a 7-2 victory to shave the Robins’ lead to seven points.

But back came Swindon in heat 10, Grajczonek and Morris storming away unopposed and helping themselves to the hosts’ third maximum of the meeting, with the result awarded after Cook fell and was sent careering into the air fence.

Doyle was unable to prevent Kennett from sealing his third race win of the evening in heat 11 but in the 12th, another man – Wright – continued his own impressive showing, with the Swindon man claiming a superb victory.

It was plain sailing from there on out, with Kennett's heat 15 triumph doing little to rain on Swindon's parade.
