SWINDON’S Jon Sore is certain that his team are capable of plenty more than they’ve shown so far this summer.

Last weekend, Sore’s side banished the spectre of their nine-wicket humbling at the hands of Marshfield on June 18 by edging a nail-biting rain-reduced encounter with Marlborough by just a single wicket.

The County Ground outfit’s 2016 campaign has been a mixed bag so far, with Swindon sixth in WEPL Wiltshire after winning three matches and losing three this season.

But with his side now back to winning ways, Sore is hopeful that he and his team-mates will soon start showing what they’re really made of.

“I don’t think that we’re too happy with the way that we’ve played in the last few weeks,” said the Swindon man, who has broken into the Wiltshire squad this term.

“We were especially unhappy with the defeat to Marshfield because they played the pitch better than we did.

“We weren’t happy with the tie (against Westbury on June 4) because we felt that was a game that we could have won. You don’t ever want to tie a match.

“We haven’t been the best run-chasers this year and it’s something that we need to work on.

“We managed to do it against Marlborough and it was great to see that because in our other two wins (against Devizes and Malmesbury), we’ve batted first.”

Tomorrow, Swindon make the trip to third-from-bottom Calne, who haven’t tasted victory since they beat Devizes on May 28.

Their game at Marshfield last weekend was abandoned but only after the hosts had posted a formidable 307-5.

Despite Calne’s recent poor form, Sore reckons that Swindon can’t afford to take anything as a given when they arrive at Beversbrook.

He added: “We go into this weekend with high expectations but we can’t take anything for granted because any team can win any game in this league.

“It’s not like football, where the best team usually wins – it only takes one moment or one or two balls to change a game.

“If we play to our best, then I know that we can win but we have to make sure that we do that.”
