HIGHWORTH Town managed to record their first win of the season despite a depleted squad when they beat Flackwell Heath 2-1.

Two goals from Aysa Corrick were enough for Jeff Roberts’ makeshift side to claim their first points of the season at the fourth attempt.

“We had to pull in seven reserve players and fair play to them they all did well so that is good to see,” said the Highworth manager “We were trying to get anything, we just wanted more from them as a team.

“We started really well and had a couple of chances in the first ten minutes, whether they had a look at our results and underestimated us I don’t know.

“We just hit them on them on the counter really, to be honest we put in a dogged performance and dug deep to get something out of it.”

Up next for Roberts’ side are local rivals Royal Wootton Bassett Town who have also struggled with form of late.

But they too managed to dodge the rain to pencil in a 3-0 home win over Brackley Town Saints, courtesy of Steve Robertson, Alione Diouf and Ryan Thomas. Former Bassett boss Roberts said that he and his side are looking forward to the local derby.

“We will give Bassett a good run, they have a steady side there if we can continue with the result we got today I’m hoping we will get another three on Monday,” added Roberts.

“Highworth and Bassett have got a big derby, it’s like any other derby whoever turns up will win if we can do what we did today we should get a win.”

Fairford Town have remain top Division One West after they crushed Shortwood United Reserves 6-1. They welcome Letcombe to Cinder Lane this afternoon.

New College’s game at North Leigh was abandoned due to rain.

While, Purton, who head to New College today, drew 2-2 with Easington Sports and Shrivenham will look to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Hook Norton when they go to Woodstock Town.
