SEAN Murray feels that fine margins have contributed to Swindon Town’s undoing in recent weeks and that his side will get themselves back on an upward curve if they eliminate individual errors.

The Town midfielder, who scored his first goal for the club in Tuesday’s loss to Northampton Town, is the first to admit that he himself has made mistakes in his short time with Swindon so far, with the 22-year-old conceding a penalty on his debut against Peterborough United and misplacing a pass to allow Bury to score at the County Ground last month.

But Murray says that he and his team-mates will be doing their best to sharpen up in an effort to improve upon their current form.

“Something we can work on is getting together as a team and playing like a proper team,” Murray told the local media.

“I think sometimes we make a few mistakes – me, myself, I’ve done it twice since coming here already – so it’s just individual errors as well sometimes but I think if we improve on that, we’ll start getting the performances we deserve from the football we play.

“I think we just need to get on the training ground and work hard together, and try and stop conceding goals and improve as a team.

“I think we’re the only people that can do it – us, the players and manager together – but I’m sure it will come because there is a great bunch of players here.

“I think the football we’ve been playing shows we’re not a bad team but we just need to cut those mistakes out.”

Murray also believes that two particular qualities will be needed for Swindon to buck the unwanted trend of their defensive record this term – Luke Williams’ side have only kept three clean sheets from 12 outings in all competitions.

The midfield man said: “I think it’s about grit and determination to not want to concede a goal because I think, in this league especially, if you give someone a chance, they’re going to take it so it is a little bit of grit and determination.

“We need to maybe improve on that a little bit.”
