SWINDON Town head coach Luke Williams says his skin is thick enough to deal with any abuse thrown his way but he won’t be getting too carried away with his team’s recent change in fortunes.

Heading into this week, many questions had been asked of Williams and his style of play as Town languished perilously close to the League One drop zone.

Despite picking up four points from their last two outings, Swindon are still only a point above Oldham Athletic in the final relegation spot, albeit with three teams cushioning them.

Williams is all too aware that his side are not out of the woods yet heading into tomorrow’s home game against Walsall and in the meantime, is happy to take any flak to deflect it away from his young squad.

“I don’t care either way, stick or no stick. All I care (about) is the players and the football club,” he told the local media.

“I prefer to get the criticism at me rather than at the players, because it is something I am not overly worried about.

“I am not on social media. I am sure people have tried to find me but I am not on Twitbook or whatever it is, so I don’t see a lot of it.

“People have told me that I am not popular at the moment but I am very proud of the players and I am very pleased for them (for winning on Tuesday) because they deserve that.”

Despite Tuesday night’s emphatic victory against the odds, much like he did during Town’s poor run, Williams is not letting emotions get the better of him.

While he admits that may make him unpopular with those baying to see passion on the sidelines, the Town chief is happy to concentrate on the task in hand.

“Nothing is won and nothing is lost,” he added.

“Unfortunately for the people who don’t like my style, that’s how I am.

“I don’t get too carried away when we lose, I don’t get too carried away when we win.

“I want everybody to be excited when we win, I want everyone to criticise me when we lose – it’s absolutely normal and the job that I have.

“I am at work 24 hours a day and it is not my nature to celebrate too much and it is not my nature to be too down unfortunately, if that’s the type of person you want me to be.”
