RICH Hunter was chuffed to see strikers old and new make an impact as Royal Wootton Bassett Town claimed victory at Brackley Town Saints.

Top-scorer Steve Robertson bagged a brace in Northamptonshire, with the frontman firing home a low effort in the first period before slotting home once again after half-time.

Brackley did reduce the deficit but then debutant Kias Bonner-Shea, who has joined Bassett from Shrivenham, came off the bench to round off a 3-1 victory for his new team.

“With Robbo, you know what you’re going to get – he took both of his goals really well,” said manager Hunter.

“I was really happy to see Kias Bonner-Shea come on and make an impact in his first game for us and hopefully he’ll fit in well.

“I wasn’t there for our last game (a 3-2 Challenge Cup defeat to lower-league Sandhurst Town) and I think that we just had a bit of a blip in that match but apart from that, our form has been good.

“We could really have been 3-0 or 4-0 up in the first half but even after they got a goal back, we managed to see out the game well.

“We’ve won our last three games in the league and it was a good result for us.”

Bassett are next in action on Wednesday night when they travel to Western League Bradford Town in the final second-round tie of the Wiltshire Senior Cup.

That fixture has been rearranged, having fallen foul to the elements last week.

Elsewhere in the Hellenic League Premier Division, Highworth Town claimed their fourth successive victory in all competitions with a 3-0 win over Longlevens.

Jeff Roberts’ side, who have also kept clean sheets in every one of those triumphs, took the lead through Ryan Stanners before Fabian McCarthy teed up Ashley Edenborough to make it 2-0.

In the second period, Edenborough wrapped things up from the penalty spot.
