SHRIVENHAM manager Michael McNally was delighted to see his team build on a spirited cup display seven days previous as they helped themselves to three points on the road at Letcombe on Saturday.

On November 26, Shrivvy led Hellenic League Premier Division Bracknell Town 3-0 in the Challenge Cup before falling foul of an unlikely comeback and losing 4-3 – however, McNally was enthused by his team’s display against higher-league opposition.

Naturally then, the Barrington Park boss was left with further cause for optimism after watching his men win 3-1 in Oxfordshire, with Lance Lewis the hat-trick hero for the visitors.

“We spoke before the game about making sure we had the same attitude, commitment and desire as the Bracknell game, and we picked up where we left off really,” said McNally.

“We were 2-0 up and then, for some reason, took our foot off the gas and let them get back in the game with a penalty.

“But Jamie Prictor has played in Lance Lewis in the second half and he’s dinked it over the keeper – I was chuffed for Lance.

“You try and get a point when you go away and win your home games, so to get three points from an away game is great, especially when it’s somewhere like Letcombe, which is a tough place to go to.

“It’s a great result for us, and hopefully we can carry on playing the same way that we have been doing.”

Victory over Letcombe saw Shrivvy get back to winning ways in Division One West following back-to-back defeats in their last two league outings.

Tomorrow evening, they travel to New College (kick-off 7.45pm).

McNally added: “When you play New College, you know that they’ll have good movement and they’ll be full of energy.

“It’ll be a tough game but if we can dominate possession, then we should have a good chance of winning.”

College themselves slipped to a 3-2 home defeat at the hands of Shortwood United Reserves on Saturday There was better news for Purton, who are now third in the table and just three points behind Fairford Town, although Gareth Davies’ men, who were inactive on Saturday, have three games in hand.

Purton avoided a banana skin by beating Tytherington Rocks, who are yet to win a match in the league all season, 2-0 at the Red House.

Meanwhile, Malmesbury Victoria were held to a goalless draw by Chippenham Park in Toolstation League First Division.
