GREYHOUND will be more than happy with their weekend as they came out on top of their top of the table clash with AFC Gas in Division One.

Rory Sproule had put the visitors ahead but were soon pegged back to 1-1 before Dan Drewett sealed the win late on.

With a total of only five fixtures managing to beat the conditions, Greyhound boss Dave Hawkins was delighted his team could get out on the pitch.

“We started quite well and had three cracking chances but their goalkeeper made some world-class saves - they were unbelievable,” he said.

“We managed to go in front but we just couldn’t finish the game off and they were always in it and with about 15 minutes to go, they got an equaliser.

“That was the first shot they had as well. We tried to get the winner and Dan Drewett scored with his first touch to put us 2-1 up.

“It’s games like that which make you appreciate the players getting up and scraping the ice off their cars to play.

“Kick-off was late because the referee wasn’t sure if we could play the game or not so there was a lot of hanging around.”

Hawkins also believes his side face a tough test if they want to stay at the summit as the top two sides are only separated by one point.

“The win puts a bit of a cushion between us and the Gas as we have a game in hand on them,” added the Greyhound boss.

“All of the top sides can beat each other on their day and everyone has dropped points already this season, they’re all tough games, any win is good.”

In Division Five, Paxton House United claimed all three points in a convincing win over Sevenfield United, scoring five without reply.

Purton Red House couldn’t find a way past Cricklade Park Rangers as they played out a goalless draw.

Despite the draw, they remain at the top of Division Five table with a total of 19 points from their eight games.

Highworth Town Sunday were also one of the few teams to get their game on as they were 3-1 away winners at Swindon Rovers in the Bunny Uzzell Memorial Shield. Northern Lights will be excused for wishing their game had been postponed as they were thrashed 10-1 at home to Save on Tyres Athletic in the same competition.
