SWINDON Shock managed to claim another win in the National League Division Four as they defeated local rivals Bristol Storm 88-76 at Swindon New College.

The visitors had a number of former Shock players in their ranks as player-coach David Colclough looked to keep up Swindon’s recent return to form.

It was the home side who jumped into an early lead, with Matt North, Spencer Wells and Christopher Cole netting 16, 18 and 18 points respectively.

After establishing a strong lead in the first quarter, Shock never relinquished their stranglehold on the game as they extended their advantage in the second.

A strong defensive performance from the five on court, with particularly impressive performances from big man Matic Irska plus guard Lee Hobbis, forced Bristol into making key mistakes.

Youngsters Ollie Swann and Ben Clark also enjoyed some game time, with the former scoring a career high eight points, and the latter making his debut at national league level. Despite the margin of victory being fairly thin, Colclough believes it was far more convincing than the score let on.

“It was a great win with things to build on. We took our foot off the pedal, which was a bit frustrating but we knew we would still win,” said Colclough.

“We lost the points we needed, which was the only frustrating thing, but other than that, we played well and I wouldn’t be scared of them if we had to play them again.

“We figured them out. We knew how to play them because we’ve been playing them before anyway.”

Next up for Colclough’s side is a visit from third-placed Cardiff City on Saturday.
