SWINDON Supermarine manager Dave Webb described his side’s 3-2 win over Tiverton Town as a proud day for the club as they stretched their unbeaten run to 11 games.

Supermarine took the lead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute after some nice build-up play led to Josh Parsons’ shot being handled in the box, allowing Brad Hooper to convert from 12 yards.

Tiverton were back on level terms shortly afterwards courtesy of Levi Landricombe but the visitors were able to restore their lead after the break when Connor Thompson got into the box before pulling the ball back to Connor Waldon, who netted his fourth goal in three games.

The important third goal came when Josh Parsons played in brother Callum Parsons, who found the top corner well and despite Tiverton scoring a second through Jamie Short, Marine were able to hold on.

The only blot on the day was defender Ash Taylor leaving the pitch after 30 minutes with a tight hamstring, but even that could not quell the emotions of the Marine boss.

“It’s a fantastic result and one of the proudest moments for me,” said Webb.

“The pitch was difficult but the way we play, we always try and stick to our principles and play the way we know we can play.

“We were superb. The players deserve a lot of credit for the way we adapted but more importantly, the way we dug in.

“Defensively, we were strong. We lost Ash Taylor after half an hour, which was disappointing.

“It’s a fantastic result. You don’t go to Tiverton very often and win. My players deserve a lot of credit.

“We knew we needed something out of the game, but to get all three points is a massive boost to everyone. It would have taken a lot out of them but it’s a great day.”

The win keeps Supermarine in fourth place in the Southern League Division One South & West table but puts them four points clear of fifth-place Salisbury, who have game in hand, and Mangotsfield United in sixth.

With Marine playing host to the latter at the Webbswood Stadium next weekend, Webb is all too aware of how important momentum is at this stage of the campaign.

“It takes us above 50 points and the play-off dream is still there,” he added.

“We’ve got to believe we can get there and we’ll move onto the next one.

“It’s 11 games unbeaten and it’s just a fantastic effort from everyone.”
