SWINDON Ladies secured only their third win of the season in Premier One as they defeated high-flying Lydney 2-0.

The Gloucestershire visitors took control of the match from the start and piled pressure on the Swindon defence, creating a number of goalscoring opportunities, however, impressive work from keeper Sarah Anstey kept Lydney at bay.

After the early pressure from the Severnsiders, the hosts hit back and fashioned several chances of their own through teenage forwards Emily Arrell and Chloe Lewis.

Swindon opened the scoring in the 21st minute when captain Gemma Scrase released Lewis and she beat her defender before playing in Adriana Bollousa, who tucked the ball away from close range.

Despite both sides battling hard, Swindon maintained their 1-0 lead at the break.

After the interval, Swindon quickly doubled their advantage with a superb goal.

A long ball from Scrase found Arrell on the right wing and she skilfully skipped past her defender. As she approached the circle, her pass found Lewis, who drew the Lydney keeper, and then played in Lynsey Wall to tap the ball into an empty net.

Wall came close to bagging her second but the Lydney keeper made a fine diving save.
