THE CHALKBOARD

Peterborough United will be reeling from last weekend’s 5-1 humbling at the hands of Bury, a side who had not recorded a win in their previous 20 outings.

Manager Grant McCann has had a fairly settled team up until now but might try and shake things up a little bit ahead of this weekend’s trip to the County Ground, having made two changes at half-time last Saturday, with his side already trailing 4-1.

What you can guarantee from McCann’s side, whoever he chooses to right the wrongs of last weekend, is that they will be a good footballing side looking to break with pace.

As a result of both Swindon and Peterborough adopting similar styles, even down to their recruitment of young talents, there has not been more than a goal between the sides in their last 16 outings.

MAN IN FORM

Themost consistent players in Grant McCann’s side this season to date have been the full-back duo of Michael Smith and Andrew Hughes.

The latter was a summer recruit from Newport County, having left for London Road on a free transfer after more than 100 appearances at Rodney Parade.

The 24-year-old may not be the type of player to grab the headlines but is a reliable player at left-back and has impressed in his short time at the club.

While sticking to his defensive duties is the number one priority for the Welshman, Hughes, like many modern full-backs, is not afraid to bomb down the wing and will prove a handful for Conor Thomas, should he continue to be played out of position at right-back.

The only blot on his copybook is a red card picked up in September against Port Vale.

TREATMENT ROOM

Peterborough  United will be without Jermaine Anderson for tomorrow’s trip to Wiltshire, the midfielder having picked up his second big injury in the space of a year-and-a-half.

The 20-year-old, who started in the reverse fixture earlier this term, has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering knee ligament damage in September.

Jack Baldwin will also be missing, having had a recurrence of his own knee injury, which he picked up in November 2014, and his most recent setback is expected to keep him out until the end of January.

Meanwhile, defender Dominic Ball and midfielder Michael Bostwick should return to the fold following back and shoulder problems respectively.
