WESTLECOT players are still deeply involved in ladies, men’s and mixed national championships as their Area 14 section has reached the quarter-final and semi-final stages.

Neil Smith and youngest daughter Katy, 20, have reached the area final in the mixed pairs and will face either Duncan Christie and his partner from Whiteknights (Reading) or Steve Tuohy and his partner from Egham (Surrey), who meet in the other semi-final at Desborough (Maidenhead) on Sunday.

The Smiths, plus Neil’s daughter Lucy and Ian Jefferies have already qualified for the Area 14 final in the mixed fours and will face Andy Knapper’s team from Whiteknights or Barry Jenkins' quartet from Egham, who were due to play their semi-final later this week.

The mixed family pairs involving Tom and Barry Pittuck, John and Kyle Anderson, Craig and Graham Hatherall. and Mike and Jamie Titcombe has reached the quarter-final stage and has to be played by next Sunday, February 5.

Ian Jefferies and Steve Remington have reached the last eight in Area 14 in the men’s singles and have to play each other for a semi-final spot.

Chris Cheesley and Neil Smith are through to the Area 14 semi-finals in the men’s pairs.

Kevin Embling, Ian Jefferies and Neil Smith beat Craig Morphet, Steve Remington and Mike Titcombe 19-4 to book an Area 14 triples semi-final spot. And the same trio plus Chris Cheesley have reached the Area 14 fours semi-finals.

In the men’s Over 50s triples, Embling, Jefferies and Smith have reached the area semi-finals.

In the women’s national championships, Lucy Smith beat club colleague Jayne Croston 21-8 in the quarter-finals and will now play the winner of the all-Banbury clash between Carole Galletly and Kath Hawes in the semi-finals.

Lucy and her younger sister Katy have to face the Banbury duo in the area pairs semi-finals following their big 41-6 win over Jayne Croston and Sheila Kenny.

In the triples, Janet Willis’ trio face Banbury, led by Carole Galletly, in the area semi-finals.
