WILDCATS’ import Jonas Hoog is looking to make amends for last weekend’s home defeat to Peterborough Phantoms with victory over Manchester Phoenix at the Link Centre tonight.

The fixture had been in doubt after it became apparent the north west club were struggling with financial difficulties, but assurances have since been made the game will go ahead as planned.

Phoenix have also been struggling on the rice as they currently sit bottom of the pile with 13 points in the English Premier League.

However, Hoog doesn’t want the Wildcats to be deceived by their rivals’ league position as they look to get back on form with a win.

“We absolutely don’t want to lose two in a row at home,” said Hoog.

“We have a good chance against Manchester. We have to play as hard as we did on Sunday at Sheffield and we normally play pretty hard at home anyway.

“I think we played hard against Peterborough last week, we just didn’t get that first goal.

“You can never go out there thinking you are going to win easy, we need to work hard to get the win.”

The 30-year-old has been at the Link Centre for seven years and has been impressed with how the league has developed over the years.

“Since I have been at Swindon I think Manchester are the best bottom team I have seen in this league,” he said.

“The league is very strong this year and although you can see Manchester are low on players, they are still a good team.

“When I first came here, it was the top four and then the bottom six but I think the standard of the whole league is very good now.”

Aaron Nell’s troops will travel to table-topping Guildford Flames on Sunday for their second installment of the weekend.
