SWINDON will be looking for more of the same as they bid for a third consecutive South West One East win against Reading Abbey at the weekend.

Sean Lynn’s side have changed their fortunes since the turn of the year and have hit a rich vein of form in recent league matches.

Previously, they had only managed to register four wins from the first half of the season and ended 2016 with a run of six games without a win.

Their latest triumph, a 25-5 win over Reading, was their second in as many weeks and skipper Mike Thompson believes it is crucial his team keep ticking over as they set their sights on survival.

“We have Reading Abbey at home but it is at our place this time and we should have a few of the other lads back tonight,” said Thompson.

“We just need to keep doing what we have been doing recently and build on that momentum, but our target, again, will be five points.

“We’ll have to wait and see what happens on Saturday but we need to maintain that winning streak.

“When you look at it, there are only a couple of months left and then we are all done, so I think we need to keep getting these wins on board.”

Despite being well aware of the predicament his side remain in, Greenbridge Road skipper Thompson doesn’t want his team-mates to dwell on what other sides around them are doing.

“We need to get out of the bottom three. We are third-from-bottom at the moment but we are level with fourth and fifth, so we just need to get some more points.

“If we just keep winning, we will be fine, so that is what we need to concentrate on. Forget what everybody else does; next year is our year to go ahead.

“When we are at our best, we are just playing open rugby with a structure, so we just need to keep the ball alive.”

Going into the game, the two sides are separated by seven points, with the visitors eighth while Swindon are 12th.
