AFC CRICKLADE climbed to the top of the Division Three table after a 9-0 romp at home to Crown.

Richard Austen’s men took advantage of the shock 3-2 defeat for previous leaders Haydon at Croft Junior to move level on points with their rivals, but Cricklade are now at the summit due to their far superior goal difference.

Dave Coleman and Shane Hibbert both helped themselves to hat-tricks for Cricklade, who also have four games in hand on Haydon, while Ben Jarrett, Wayne Petrie and John Davoile also hit the back of the net.

Boss Austen said: “We’ve not lost in the league this season and we’ve scored 96 goals in 12 games in all competitions, so we’re not doing too badly at the moment.

“We played very well on a difficult pitch. It was 3-0 at half-time so going down the slope in the second half, you always think you are going to get a few more goals.

“We are top of the league and we have played the least number of games so you would like to think it is in our hands but when you’re doing well, you are a scalp so you can’t get carried away.

“We have had about 20 different goal scorers this season so people are chipping in all over the pitch.

“When you’re bottom, you can’t get the numbers, but when you’re top, everyone’s available.”
