POLICE are appealing for witnesses after Swindon Town skipper Nathan Thompson had his home burgled whilst playing for the club.

The incident happened at approximately 4pm yesterday at his home in the North Swindon area, while Thompson was playing for Swindon in their 3-1 win away to Coventry City.

The club say that the police forensics unit have yet to investigate the scene but a number of items of jewellery appear to have been taken, including Thompson’s wedding rings (a women’s platinum plain wedding band and a men’s Cartier love ring in rose gold, size 57), which were bought ahead of his wedding this summer - these were in distinct red boxes and the certificates and receipts have also been stolen.

Jewellery with sentimental value, that had been passed down to Thompson and his partner from deceased family members, was also taken.

Witnesses saw two teenagers in the area behaving in a suspicious way and running off and are alleged to have been seen with some of the items that are now missing.

Skipper Thompson said: “We are utterly devastated that, during the game yesterday, our home has been completely ransacked.

“My fiancée was at the game as well so thankfully no one was hurt.

“I personally urge anyone that might have some information concerning this to please come forward and help the police with their enquiries.”

Anybody with any information on the burglary is being urged to contact Wiltshire Police on 101.
