SWINDON captain Mike Thompson admits he’s not sure what impact a week off will have made to his team as they host Windsor on Saturday.

During their last outing on March 11, Swindon claimed their eighth South West One East win of the season as they defeated Witney.

But last week was a fixtureless Saturday, something which could be a blessing or a curse, according to Thompson.

“Sometimes it is a good thing to have a break. But we are near the end of the season so I don’t think it is the best time to have one for any of the teams, really,’’ said Thompson.

“It’s quite tight in the league and it could go one of two ways. It could be our last chance to have a rest before we really get down to it.

“The lads have been training hard and working on their fitness. We know what we need to do and we are in that dogfight.

“We have been in it since Christmas so we know what is on the line, we just have to be prepared for that.”

Swindon are currently two places above the foot of the table ahead of this weekend’s fixture and Thompson is adamant his team are more than aware of what is at stake.

But despite the precarious situation they find themselves in, the Grennbridge Road skipper insists the squad are confident they can pull away from the danger zone.

“It’s getting to the point now where a few mistakes could be the difference between staying up and going down,” added the skipper.

“We have four games left. We just have to see what happens on Saturday. I’m confident.

“It’s at our place and I think the lads are confident. We need to pull a performance out of the bag because we can’t afford to start slowly.

“I think we all know how serious it is now, the situation is in the back of everyone’s mind.”
