DAVE Webb is adamant there is no chance of Swindon Supermarine taking it easy for their Southern League Division One South & West finale on Saturday as they are keen to carry a winning feeling into next week’s Wiltshire Senior Cup final.

Marine travel to Bath to take on Larkhall Athletic in their last league game of the season knowing that victory will not be enough for them to finish in the play-off places.

However, Webb is eager to end the campaign as the best of the rest in sixth – the place his side currently occupy – and says there will be no let-up from Marine as they look to tune-up for their county cup final against near neighbours Highworth Town at the County Ground on April 27 with a win.

“Momentum is everything for us. We have got two games left this season and we want to win both of them,” said Webb.

“We will go at it full tilt this weekend because we want to win in order to finish in the top six. If we could do that, it’s a pretty decent effort.

“Of course, we are disappointed because we want to be in the top five every season and this season it has not happened, but considering the calibre of the sides that are going to be in the play-offs at the end of the season, if we finish sixth, I think that is a pretty good achievement.

“We want to take the club forward and if we can finish sixth in the table and with a piece of silverware to our name, I think we can be relatively happy with what we have done.”

Although the Larks are down in 15th in the table, they have no fears over relegation as they can finish no lower than their current position no matter what the outcome on Saturday.

With both teams having nothing really to play for in terms of league positions, there is a danger of a damp squib being played out at Plain Ham.

However, Webb says that could not be further from the truth, pointing to the last time the two sides met back in September’s reverse fixture, in which the Larks had two men sent off following a ruckus sparked by a bad challenge late on.

“Larkhall are an experienced side and it was quite a feisty game when we played them earlier in the season,” said Webb.

“They certainly won’t be rolling over for us, and neither will we for them. I expect a good, close game, even though it’s the end of the season.

“We want to be right for our cup final on Thursday night and the best way of doing that is by winning on Saturday.”
