WILTSHIRE U25s men’s team made a winning start to their 2017 campaign with a narrow three-shot win over Somerset last weekend.

Despite only taking the honours on one rink of the four at Chew Stoke (Bristol), Wiltshire won the match 73-70.

The rink of Nathan Richards (Westlecot), Bradley Frankham (Spencer Moulton), Alex Wickham (Chippenham Town) and skip Chris Poole (Holt) were the heroes, recording a 29-11 win to cancel out losses of Gary Jackson (three shots), Craig Morphet loss (two) and James Richman (10).

RESULT Rink 2: Ashley Peach (Alderbury), Isaac Jacob (Trowbridge Westbourne), Ben Choules (Highworth) & Gary Jackson (Westlecot) lost to Chris Spurry 16-19. Rink 3: Tom Newman (Avon), John Hermon (Garrards), James Vincent (Alderbury) & Craig Morphet (Royal Wootton Bassett) lost to Levi Hembrow 16-18. Rink 4: Josh Farrer (Spencer Moulton), David Murray (High), Liam Williams (Box) & James Richman (West) lost to Reece Williams 12-22. Rink 5: Nathan Richards (West), Bradley Frankham (S Moulton), Alex Wickham (Chippenham Town) & Chris Poole (Holt) beat Reece White 29-11.

Score: Wiltshire U25 beat Somerset U25 73-70.

  • ON MONDAY, Wiltshire U25s travel to Gloucestershire to contest the annual Four Counties U25 Bank Holiday Tournament at Cheltenham (Sussex Square).

It is a competition that Wiltshire won at the first attempt in 2014 and retained the following season at home at Westlecot.

Last year they were runners-up to Somerset.

  • THE JUNIOR county men’s team will continue preparations for their 2017 White Rose Trophy campaign, the national county U25s two fours competition, with a four-rink trial match against Oxfordshire on May 6 at South Oxford BC (10.30am).

Wiltshire’s first White Rose Trophy game in the west section is a preliminary round match against Gloucestershire at Royal Wootton Bassett on Sunday, May 14 at 10.30am.
