ALUN Rossiter says tonight’s meeting away at SGB Premiership leaders Wolverhampton Wolves is not quite the last chance saloon for some of his misfiring Swindon Robins riders.

The Robins team manager has already made one change to his 2017 roster, replacing Dane Emil Grondal at reserve with Austria’s Dany Gappmaier and Rossiter is not afraid to shuffle his pack further.

Rossiter delivered an ultimatum to his middle order riders in the wake of Swindon’s 48-45 defeat at home to King’s Lynn Stars on Thursday, although there was more misery 24 hours later as the team were beaten 48-42 away at Belle Vue Aces.

Numbers two and three, Bradley Wilson-Dean and Adam Ellis, scored just two points each against the Stars but the latter missed the subsequent trip to Manchester with a wrist injury because of a fall on Thursday and will also sit out this evening’s fixture at Wolverhampton.

Ellis could only improve his own points haul to three against Belle Vue, although that would have been higher for an engine blow-out.

Although Rossiter is desperate for his riders to improve, he says tonight’s meeting will not be make or break.

“It’s not like that – Monday doesn’t count on the averages. I’ll be looking at it and making a decision in the next few weeks,” said Rossiter.

“We need the middle order to come through.

“David (Bellego) did well on Friday, Zach (Wajtknecht) rode well too and Adam showed some glimpses of what he can do.

“It was just unfortunate because if he’d got second place in that race where he retired, we probably wouldn’t be focussing on him, but you can’t help at engine failure.

“Of course the other riders have voiced some concerns, they did it on Thursday night. Nobody expected to lose that meeting, although we knew it was going to be tough.

“They are frustrated but there is only so much I can do at the moment. It’s a waiting game.”

Having lost on consecutive night’s last week, Rossiter admits the Robins will be hard pushed to get back to winning ways this evening against a Wolves side having tasted victory in their last six fixtures.

The Robins boss would therefore be happy if his side could match their outcome against Belle Vue and travel home from the trip to the reigning champions with a losing point to show for their efforts.

“It’s going to be hard, they are flying at the moment so it is going to be really tough,” said Rossiter, who confirmed Swindon will again run rider replacement in place of Wilson-Dean.

“They have made some good changes for the better and I think they look a lot stronger now with Rory (Schlein) in.

“It’s going to be tough to get anything there but if we can get a point again, I will be more than happy.”
