LEAGUE One side Charlton Athletic have made a contract offer to Swindon Town captain Nathan Thompson, according to reports in London.

The Valley club have reportedly tabled an offer to the 26 year old, who becomes a free agent at the end of next month.

Thompson has also been made a contract offer by Town, despite being sought after by up to seven clubs.

As well as the Addicks, Ipswich, Portsmouth and Rotherham United were among those to be showing interest in the County Ground academy graduate.

Under EFL rules, Town had to make offers to any player they wished to retain for next season before last Saturday or risk being fined.

Jonathan Obika, Yaser Kasim, Raphael Branco and Jermaine Hylton have also all been offered fresh deals, although Town chairman Lee Power admitted his club's move was a sensible move, with the club still to appoint a new manager.

Power said in an interview on BBC Wiltshire last weekend: "I didn't want to new manager to come in and say he'd like to have kept those players.

"As a football club we needed to protect ourselves.''

The Advertiser understands at least three of the players have been offered deals elsewhere, both at home and abroad, with Branco and midfielder Kasim being approached by other teams.
