SWINDON Robins team manager Alun Rossiter couldn’t hide his disappointment that their meeting with Somerset Rebels was lost to the rain this evening.

In what should have been a Bank Holiday meeting between two local rivals in the SGB Premiership, a heavy downpour at around 3.30pm scuppered any chance of any racing taking place.

Despite the shower only lasting an hour, the Abbey Stadium track was left with large puddles, having already taken on a lot of water over the weekend, with track staff doing their best to get the surface ready throughout today.

As a result, Swindon must wait to try and record their first league win of the season in front of their home crowd, but Rossiter conceded that there was little they could have done.

“I wanted to get that one on but the forecast was for more rain to be due as the evening progressed,” he said. “It was one of those things, we can’t beat the weather unfortunately.

“We were hoping the rain was going to go up north, that was the plan on the weather forecasts and we had missed it all day, then it just came at the wrong time.

“The track was pretty wet with a few puddles forming. The problem was it was wet before but we had got it looking pretty good, but that downpour just killed it.

“From a fans' point of view, it was important to make the call and we’re looking at a few dates for the re-arrangement and as soon as we know, we will clarify it with the fans.”

Swindon now travel to King’s Lynn Stars on Wednesday evening desperate to get some more points under their belt, having not won in their last three outings.

However, Rossiter is not panicking and having seen Adam Ellis, who has struggled for form this term after picking up an early injury, win the European Pairs semi-final in the Czech Republic alongside Josh Bates at the weekend, the Swindon boss is hopeful their win tally can improve.

“We all know we have only had three wins,” he added. “It is difficult at the moment but I am confident that the boys will start pulling through.

“Adam had a good meeting in the Czech Republic for Great Britain, where he won the European Championship with Josh Bates.

“Hopefully, that can be the turning point for him with a bit of luck. We just a bit more from him and Bradley (Wilson-Dean).”
