THE rain delayed pairs were finally completed last week with the quarter and semi-finals taking place at Westlecot today (10.15am).

In the north area Purton duo of Chris Mitchell and Alison Fail beat Linda Perfitt and partner to book a last eight spot.

Wroughton’s June Corbett and Margaret Dowthwaite were also successfully in the last 16 stage beating former pairs champion Janet Willis and her partner.

Joining them at the Old Town club today will be Westlecot duo Jayne Croston and Lynda Whittingham who were conceded their tie by Pewsey pairing Sue Allsop and partner early into their match.

Completing the northern qualifiers for the ladies pairs quarter-finals were Wanborough’s two Johns Trophy players Julia Hunt and Deanne Davis who beat a Royal Wootton Bassett pairing skipped by Bev Williamson.

THE singles two wood competition took place last Saturday day with Lucy Smith (Royal Wootton Bassett), Julie Jones (Purton) and Julia Hunt (Wanborough) plus Janet Hardie (North Wilts) reaching the quarter-finals - which were due to take place at Wroughton last night.

ROYAL Wootton Bassett's Katy Smith has booked her place in the Ladies U25 singles after defeating Trowbridge Westbourne's Emily Jacob and Box's Lauren Williams.

Meanwhile, the second and third rounds of the ladies national singles championships are due to be played on Monday and Friday next week.

WILTSHIRE have made four changes for their Johns Trophy match with Cornwall following their home defeat to Dorset.

The selectors have omitted Rosemary Fitzpatrick (Chippenham Town), Jean Collier (Box) and sisters Lucy and Katy Smith (Royal Wootton Bassett) with Maisie Daniell (Bassett) and Salisbury area trio Janice Rowe (Amesbury), Mo Woolley (Alderbury) and Lesley Trattles (Wilton) coming into the team.

WILTSHIRE ladies claimed their second win in the South West Counties League after they defeated Somerset 126-107.
