PURTON skipper Aaron Lee says his side need to be at their best when they welcome local rivals Royal Wootton Bassett.

The hosts currently sit two places behind their counterparts in WEPL Wiltshire, in sixth, while Bassett, who were promoted from the Wiltshire League last season, have made a great start to the season with four wins out of seven.

Following their good start to the year, Lee knows his troops will have to be at the top of their game if they are to come away with a positive result.

“It’s a massive game because there is quite a lot of history and rivalry between the two clubs, so it should be good,” said Lee.

“We haven’t played them in a league game for a few years, so it is exciting.

“I think there is more pressure on us, compared to them, because they have been promoted in our league.

“The fact they have been playing so well only adds to that pressure, obviously they have shown that they are more than capable of beating anyone in the league.”

While Lee concedes the performance of his local rivals may have been surprising to some, he is adamant his side will know what to expect this weekend as they aim to get back to winning ways.

“In all honesty I didn’t know what to expect from them when they moved up to our league,” he added. “They’re doing exceptionally well and you can’t take that away from them.

“We know a few of their guys, obviously the two clubs have been quite close over the years so we know that they have quality.

“We know somewhat what they will be about.

“It will have all changed, some players will have got more experienced, some have got older and some have gone out and come back in.

“We are the same so it should be a really good and competitive game.

“We have to step it up really so it will be interesting to see what will happen.”

Purton will be without Sam Collier who is still sidelined by a broken arm, while opening bowler Santhosh Iyengar is ruled out with a pulled hamstring, Elliot Hill will also not feature due to a sore foot.

Swindon will be looking to bounce back from a run of three defeats when they make the trip to Calne.
