SWINDON Town manager David Flitcroft says there is no cause for concern over the players that missed Monday night’s pre-season draw with Salisbury.

Of those absent, Conor Thomas was the only one who had a knock, having rolled his ankle in training the morning of the game.

However, the 23-year-old has travelled with the squad to Portugal this morning as the club continues to monitor the extent of the injury.

Meanwhile, new recruits Chris Hussey and Olly Lancashire both missed the trip to the Raymond McEnhill Stadium but Flitcroft said it was part of the plan, having played a big role in the behind-closed-doors friendly with Oldham Athletic last Friday.

“We’re looking at the game time and game data,” he told the local media.

“Certainly Chris Hussey, with the way he plays, his game data is where I want it to be.

“Lancs (Olly Lancashire) played a full game against Oldham and got really tested against two very good strikers, Craig Davies and (Aaron) Amadi-Holloway.

“He has trained (on Tuesday) and those two boys have done extra.

“Conor Thomas has just rolled his ankle in training, so that has been assessed.

“It was just a bit of an awkward one in the morning session so, we’ll have a look at that one.

“Starks (Jesse Starkey) has just been training back at the club.”

Former West Bromwich Albion striker Andre Wright, who had a loan spell at Coventry City last season before being released this summer, was one of two new trialists on display on Monday.

With Donal McDermott having converted his trial into a one-year deal at the club, Flitcroft has admitted that there will be no futures for Zavon Hines, Jack Bainbridge or Jordan Slew.

However, he has not ruled out taking trialists with him to Portugal, despite Wright, who has also had a trial with Gillingham this summer, not travelling due to non-footballing reasons.

“Possibly,” replied Flitcroft when asked if any temporary players will be travelling with the squad.

“It’s more to make sure we have got two 10s out there. We will be doing a lot of 11v11 work so it’s important that we get 20 outfield players in certain positions and that will give us a good chance to have a look at them in a 24-hour environment.

“You always find out a lot about people when they are in that full environment.

“Zavon (Hines), we’ve had a look at him and we just couldn’t quite come and reach an agreement on him, so that one has gone now.

“Jordan (Slew) had an opportunity to go to Mansfield, one of the big hitters in our league in terms of paying money, so he has had that opportunity to go there and it is 20 minutes from his house, so he wanted to explore that opportunity.

“We are not going to do anything with Jack (Bainbridge).

“We are trying people out and that is important for us to keep having a look at out-of-contract players and seeing what they can offer to the football club.”
