ALUN Rossiter is remaining coy over Swindon Robins’ SGB Premiership title prospects, although their brilliant run of form has at least given him confidence that they can be in the shake-up.

Swindon made it five victories in eight days by thumping Rye House Rockets 57-33 at the Abbey Stadium last night – extending their winning sequence to seven meetings in a row in the process.

That form has seen the Robins soar up the table, climbing from the lower echelons up to third place and just two points behind leaders Belle Vue Aces.

With 12 meetings still to go before the play-off places are determined, Rossiter is not getting carried away by his side’s recent revival, although the Robins boss is sure they have the potential to be amongst the contenders.

“We can certainly compete if we carry on like this – as long as we haven’t peaked too early,” said Rossiter.

“Of course we have got a chance but our feet are firmly on the ground. We will respect anybody that comes here and when we go anywhere on the road.

“Just because we are on a bit of a high at the moment we can’t just expect to win. There are going to be some tough meetings coming up and we have to keep putting the points on the board, it’s as simple as that.

“Who knows what will happen? Today you are a hero but tomorrow you could be a zero.

“It’s an old cliché but we have just got to take one meeting at a time, hopefully stay injury free and keep plugging away.

“We are still really only at the halfway stage. We are back in the hunt but we will just take it one at a time.”

After beating Belle Vue at the Abbey last Thursday, the Robins made it back-to-back victories over the current league leaders away from home the following night.

The buoyant mood carried over into this week, with further away day wins at Leicester Lions and Poole Pirates before yesterday’s home success over Rye House saw them cap a 23-point haul from a possible 24 in the space of eight days.

“Seven wins in a row sounds very good. It’s job done and I am very happy. I couldn’t ask for better than 23 out of 24 points,” added Rossiter.

“To hear we are only two points off the top is pretty good. That’s very satisfying but I don’t look at the table.

“Before this week started, I couldn’t tell you where we were, and I can’t tell you where we are now. I don’t worry about it, all I worry about is putting points on the board.”
