SWINDON Supermarine claimed the first friendly win of their pre-season programme on Saturday with a 5-0 romp at near-neighbours Royal Wootton Bassett Town.

Dave Webb’s Southern League West side were always a cut above their Hellenic League Premier Division opponents at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground and were three goals to the good by half-time.

Ryan Morgan, TJ Bohane, Lee Marshall, John Else and Adam Woodley were all on target for Marine, who have to wait a full week for their next pre-season assignment when they host Banbury United on Saturday.

There was also defeat for Bassett’s Hellenic Premier rivals Fairford Town as they were beaten by an Oxford United development side, although they can take encouragement from the narrow 2-0 scoreline.

Highworth Town fared better on Friday night when they edged to a slender 4-3 success at home to Andover New Street in an entertaining encounter.

Hellenic Division One West side Shrivenham were also involved in a close contest on Saturday, going down 1-0 to Didcot Town Reserves, while Swindon New College were beaten 8-2 at Bibury.
