DAVID Howell is returning to action after a two-week break as he tees of at the Porsche European Open in Germany today.

The 42-year-old, who has tumbled to 489th in the world rankings, missed out on last week’s 146th Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, after failing to qualify.

During his last outing, Howell made his fourth cut of the year, when he made it to the latter stages of the Scottish Open a fortnight ago.

The two-time Ryder Cup winner washed up in tied 64th place in Aberdeen, and will be hoping for better fortunes in Hamburg this week.

Meanwhile, Derry Hill’s Jordan Smith is also making a return to action, the 24-year-old, who plays out of Bowood, was second reserve for the Open, but didn’t manage to get out onto the course.

One Wiltshire golfer who made it to Royal Birkdale was Laurie Canter and the 27-year-old will be full of confidence after he finished tied 37th in Southport.

Smith is the first to tee off when he gets underway at 12.40pm (BST), followed by Howell at 1pm and then Canter, who starts at 1.10pm alongside Eddie Pepperell and Petr Dedek.
