SWINDON Robins boss Alun Rossiter has his eyes firmly set on the play-offs after his side recorded their eighth-straight win for the first time in more than a decade.

Not since June 2007 have Swindon had such a fine run of form in the top division of British speedway, with Swindon’s eighth success coming courtesy of a 56-34 win over Poole Pirates at the Abbey Stadium last night.

The run of victories has seen Swindon climb from second-from-bottom in the league standings to one place off the summit, reigniting their play-off hopes which looked like a pipe dream when this run started in mid-June.

However, Rossiter, who now believes his side have one foot in the play-offs already, is not allowing himself to get ahead of himself as he keeps his side focused on the job in hand.

“We’ve got to keep it going,” he said. “We’ve got five home meetings and five away meetings remaining. A couple more away wins and I think that will cement our place in the play-offs.

“I am enjoying it but we are keeping our feet firmly grounded.

“The team spirit is good and everyone is on a high but we have got to keep going.

“It’s too early to say how far this team can go. Let’s get to the play-offs and then we’ll re-start and build again.

“We’ve just got to keep this run going.”

Rossiter has pin-pointed Tobiasz Musielak, who picked up seven points last night, as the catalyst behind Swindon’s purple patch, with the Polish rider having arrived just one meeting into this current run of wins.

“I think he has turned our season,” he added.

“He has given the whole team a lift since he arrived and he has given us the balance in the team, the team is far more balanced now.

“He has given the side confidence and is taking the pressure off by scoring the points where we struggling before.”

Zach Wajtknecht took a heavy fall into bend three, leading heat 12 at the time, and Rossiter says they will keep an eye on the young Brit, who complained of breathing issues.

“Zach is not feeling too good,” said Rossiter.

“He is feeling sick and is struggling with his breathing at the moment.

“I think he took a whack in the guts with the handlebars and he has got the monitors on him at the moment.”
