SWINDON Robins boss Alun Rossiter is yet to switch his focus from wrapping up an SGB Premiership play-off place to securing top seeding in the end-of-season competition despite the sizeable cushion built up by the Abbey Stadium men.

Saturday’s 53-37 success at Rye House Rockets - a club record 11th in succession - pushed the Robins six points clear at the top of the table and a full 22 in front of King’s Lynn Stars, the club currently occupying fifth spot with the top four set to contest the play-offs.

While Swindon have ridden more meetings than any other top-flight rival, the reality is that it would take a run of results akin to that of the Blunsdon side - as well as a dramatic loss of Swindon form - to rob Rossiter’s men of their goal.

But while securing top spot would hand Swindon the right to choose their first opponent in the play-off semi finals, Rossiter is refusing to alter course in what is shaping up to be an exciting end to the summer.

“Let’s get there, then we start again,’’ said the team boss, referring to the possibility of top seeding.

“Our feet are still firmly on the ground. Our riders are still very focused and I’ll make sure that won’t change.

“We’re not getting above our station even though this is a fantastic run.

“I’m sure it (the record run) will come to an end at some stage whenever, or it might not, who knows?

“We could go all the way through the season now - and how nice would that be - but we’ve just got to think positive now because we are riding well.

“We can’t hide behind the underdogs (tag), we’ve done that for half the season but now we’re the team that everybody wants to knock (over).’’ Swindon could conceivably be shunted off the summit before they next track at home to Somerset Rebels a week on Thursday, with Belle Vue hosting King’s Lynn on Friday and going to Rye House tomorrow week.

But with five of their final eight matches on home shale and two of the away trips at venues at which they have already won in 2017 - Somerset and Rye House again - the outlook is good for the Wiltshire men.

Rossiter hopes to make good use of home advantage, adding: “We’ve got to make sure the track suits us and is not too slick but it was slick (at Rye House) and we rode well so whatever is chucked at us we should be comfortable in what we do.

“We’ll just keep it (the Blunsdon track) the way it’s been. It was a little bit slick on Thursday (in the 52-40 win over Leicester Lions) but then we smashed in three 5-1s.’’ Skipper Jason Doyle, who injured toes in the same foot in which he broke bones in June in the win at King’s Lynn last Wednesday, missed Saturday’s victory but did ride for Polish side Falubaz Zielona Gora on Sunday, clocking up paid 14 in a 56-34 win over Robins’ teammate Tobiasz Musielak’s Rybnik.

The Australian, who leads the individual Speedway GP World Championship standings, is expected to contest the Swedish Grand Prix in Manilla on Saturday before returning to Swindon duty against Somerset.
