JEFF Roberts says players need to take their chances in the team when they get them ahead of Highworth Town’s clash with Tuffley Rovers tonight.

The Highworth boss opted to make four changes for Saturday’s 6-2 win away to Burnham and is expected to ring the changes once again this evening.

With two games and two wins under their belt already, Highworth currently sit top of the Hellenic League Premier division table.

While Roberts plans to rotate his squad once again, he says it is up to the players to lay down a claim for a regular starting berth.

“We have a strong squad. It was good that we could pull three or four off of the pitch at the weekend and put another three or four players back on," he said.

“They’re all good players on the bench now, it just depends on when they get their opportunity they need to take it."

Last term, the Worthians were the fifth-highest scorers with a total of 87, and with 10 already scored in their first two league games, Roberts is more than happy with his team’s prowess in front of goal.

Striking duo Ashley Edenborough and Aysa Corrick were the main source of goals for Roberts last season, who collectively accounted for 77% of the 87 scored, with 29 and 38 respectively.

However, during their win at the weekend, a total of six different scorers netted, much to the delight of Roberts, who was happy to see variation from his side.

“We are scoring goals, we’ve played two away games and scored 10 goals so I can’t be too negative,” he added.

“If you look at the goal-scorers on Saturday, there are six different scorers, which shows we have the potential all over the park to score.

“We aren’t just relying on Ash Edenborough and Aysa Corrick to score goals, we can score from other avenues too.

“It makes us stronger as a squad but as I have said, there is a long way to go yet.”

Royal Wootton Bassett are also in action and they will hope they can claim their first win of the season when they travel to Lydney Town tonight.

After recording a loss and a draw so far, manager Rich Hunter will hope that it is third time lucky for his troops.
