SWINDON Town have secured the services of Coventry City goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook on transfer deadline day.

The 23-year-old has moved to the County Ground on a two-year contract to link back up with former manager David Flitcroft.

Despite making 22 appearances last season for the Sky Blues, Charles-Cook has fallen down the pecking order at the Ricoh Arena, with the arrival of Liam O'Brien this summer.

Lee Burge is also ahead of him at the moment in the matchday squad, with Charles-Cook said to be looking to improve his chances of playing first team football.

“I’m absolutely buzzing to have signed here,” he told the club website.

“I’m over the moon and Swindon Town is a massive club.

“It shouldn’t be in League Two and it is a massive achievement on my behalf to sign for this football club.

“My first day training with the boys was excellent and I’m looking forward to the season ahead and helping us achieve promotion.”

The former Arsenal youth player, was handed his debut by Flitcroft at Bury back in March 2014, when he was a half-time substitute for Brian Jensen in a goalless draw with Southend United.

Charles-Cook left the same summer despite being offered a new deal at Gigg Lane, with a number of Premier League clubs seeking to land the then 20-year-old.

In July 2014, Charles-Cook signed a one-year deal with Coventry, who were then in League One, with an option for a second year, where he was immediately sent out on loan to non-league Nuneaton Town.

He went on to make his Sky Blues debut the following season in the League Cup, starting in a 1-1 draw with Rochdale and went on to make 39 appearances that campaign, setting a club record for being the first goalkeeper to keep clean sheers in his first four league games, as well as a post-war record for the most consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.

Charles-Cook signed a new contract in November 2015, which was set to keep him at the club until 2018 and despite starting last season as Coventry’s first-choice goalkeeper, he lost his place to Burge following a 2-2 draw with AFC Wimbledon.
