SWINDON Ladies made a storming start to Premier Division 2A of the West Clubs League as they smashed Firebrands 2 7-1 in their season opener in what was a first match in charge for newly-promoted coach Kerry Baker.

With midfielder Linda Brouwers keeping the tempo of the match high, the home side took the lead in the 20th minute as midfielder Gemma Scrase’s run down the right ended in a cross for teenager Chloe Lewis to hit a neat reverse-stick shot into the corner of the goal.

Minutes later Lewis entered the D and found fellow attacker Adriana Boullosa who netted with her short-range effort.

Firebrands forced a short corner on the stroke of half-time and a Swindon foot on the line stopped the resulting shot to conceded a penalty flick.

However, keeper Sarah Anstey brilliantly dived to the right to deny the effort and Swindon came out strongly in the second half.

It wasn’t long before Scrase found the net thanks to a fine run by Boullosa, who herself scored again shortly afterwards with a shot into the roof of the net.

Firebrands eventually managed to breach a strong home defence of Julie Russell, Mary Goldsmith, Charlie Watson and newcomer Natalie Moore, but exceptional play from Charlie Watson and linking passes from Lynsey Wall and Shona O’Dwyer, brought Lewis another goal.

Boullosa slotted in her third goal for her hat-trick before Daisy Mussard, making her first-team debut, scored the seventh when she deflected home.
