HIGHWORTH’S Linda Young and Purton’s Chris Mitchell recorded doubles at the Swindon & District Women’s Bowling Association finals held at Westlecot.

Highworth stalwart Young won both ladies two-wood and four-wood singles championships.

She beat Royal Wootton Bassett’s Charley Godwin 21-9 in the four-wood and then scooped the two-wood crwon by defeating Purton’s Alison Fail 17-11.

Chris Mitchell, a member of the Purton team that won the national ladies triples title at Leamington this year, won the champion of champions crown beating Bassett’s Patricia Murray 21-14 in the final.

And with her regular pairs partner Alison Fail, Mitchell landed the pairs title when comfortable defeating Wanborough duo Julia Hunt and Deanne Davis 27-14.

Stratton Churchway trio of Johanna Bryant, Wendy Anderson and Janet Willis took the charity triples competition by two shots defeating the Bassett triple of Carol Pugh, Debbie Hatherall and Charley Godwin 20-18.

After suffering three final reverses, Bassett ladies finally came up trumps when winning the double rinks when they defeated Wroughton 46-29.

Two Wood Singles: Linda Young (High) beat Alison Fail (Purton) 17-11.

Pairs: Chris Mitchell & Alison Fail (Purton) beat Julia Hunt & Deanne Davis (Wanborough) 27-14.

Charity Triples: Johanna Bryant, Wendy Anderson & Janet Willis (Stratton Churchway) beat Carol Pugh, Debbie Hatherall & Charley Godwin (RWB) 20-18.

Double Rinks: Rink1: Barbara Twine, Doreen Croucher, Bev Williamson & Patricia Murray beat Gloria Holborow, Di Gibbs, Sue Clinch & Carol Woodward 27-7. Rink 2: Carol Pugh, Ginny Nash, Debbie Hatherall & Charley Godwin lost to Lyn Thatcher, Judy Hallard, Jill Webb & Babs Salter 19-22.
