MARK Collier felt a touch of guile in the opposition penalty area was the only element lacking from Chippenham Town's performance as Hampton & Richmond Borough extended their unbeaten National League South run to 11 matches with a 1-0 victory on Saturday.

Bradley Hudson-Odoi's strike 15 minutes from time handed the Beavers all three points and left the Bluebirds with no reward from what Collier felt was otherwise a thoroughly competent performance from the Wiltshire men in Middlesex.

Town keeper Jared Thompson kept out a volley from Hampton's Taurean Roberts in the best chance of the first half before Hudson-Odoi kicked fresh air after the break.

But the striker made amends on 75 minutes by finishing a fine move for the goal that decided the contest.

Collier admitted: "I was disappointed we didn't come away with something really because I think they (Hampton) are one of the in-form sides and ones of the best teams we've played.

"We've gone toe-to-toe with them really, so that was pleasing. We did lack a little bit in the final third but our all-round commitment levels and fitness were outstanding.

"We had a disappointed dressing room and I think the fact is that we deserved to come away with something - not a victory - but something on the board.

"It's fine lines in this division and when teams invariably get chances they take them.

"We're disappointed with the result, but I'm not disappointed with the performance because there were a lot of positives to come out of it.

"I think that they (Borough) will be in the top five or six come the end of the season and we've gone to-to-toe with them for long periods of the game.''

Town have been consistent scorers so far this season and Collier was reluctant to read to much into his side's inability to conjure up some magic in front of goal on this occasion.

"We were on the back foot initially and we had people behind the ball - we don't mind doing that when we're away from home,'' added Collier.

"When we got into that final third we just needed to produce that bit of quality and we didn't manage to do that at the right times and didn't get our shots away when we needed to. "That's just for us to look at, but we've always done well on the scoring front so it's not an issue really. If I was being particularly picky about our performance that would be the thing I'd look at.''
