WESTLECOT continue to march on in the Egham Trophy and Top Club competitions.

The Top Club side enjoyed a 10-6 win at Clevedon after winning three of the five disciplines.

They followed it up with a 105-59 thumping on Sunday over Malvern Hills in the Egham Trophy.

Across the board Westlecot trailed Malvern Hills 24-15 after five ends but had roared in front when scoring 47 shots and only conceding six to lead 62-30 after 10 ends.

They led 80-44 at 15 ends and 99-54 at 18 before finally winning 105-59.

The victory charge was led away in Worcestershire by the two rinks skipped by Chris Cheesley and Mike Titcombe.

The former winning by seven shots but the foursome of Lucy and Katy Smith plus Phil Gregory and Titcombe turned the match on its head.

In their game they were 8-2 down after five ends but at 11 were 25-8 up following a run of four, six, four, two, four and three.

The quartet then added a maximum eight shots on end 18 and finally ran-out 22-shot winners by a massive 40-18 margin.

At home Neil Smith’s rink won handsomely 29-9 but Mel Biggs lost 19-16 to former Westlecot player Brian MacNamara.

Westlecot will now meet Clarrie Dunbar in the third round on Monday.

Westlecot will also face Clarrie Dunbar away in round three of the Top Club competition, early next year, on Sunday, January 7.

Having made early exits in both the men’s Denny Cup and the ladies’ Yetton Trophy, Westlecot face Plate matches today.

In the Yetton Plate, the Old Town-based club face local rivals Swindon Manor, while in the Denny Plate Westlecot do battle with Gloucester.

n WESTLECOT men supply the bulk of the players named for the U25 and county senior side to compete in the forthcoming inter-county championship events.

In the inter-county U25 double rinks, Wiltshire face Dorset at Dolphin IBC tomorrow (10am), while in the second round of the Liberty Trophy they travel to Malvern Hills on Saturday, December to face Worcestershire.
