SKIPPER Olly Lancashire is keen to focus on the bigger picture in the wake of Swindon Town’s Boxing Day drubbing at the hands of league leaders Luton.

The 29-year-old defender labelled the 5-0 Bank Holiday reverse “embarrassing” but is confident he and his teammates will put things right when second-placed Notts County visit the Energy Check County Ground tomorrow afternoon.

Town have now reached the halfway point in their 46-game Sky Bet League Two campaign and, despite their well-documented troubles on home soil, remain only five points behind Lincoln City – who occupy the third and final automatic promotion place – with a game in hand.

“We are 23 games in, halfway through,” said Lancashire. “We’re on 35 points – a few off where we want to be but we still have a good opportunity to really attack the second half of the season.

“If we can get the home form right then we’ll be right up there.

“We’re feeling it (after the defeat to Luton) but you can sit down and feel sorry for yourself or you can go out fighting.

“We’re not in a terrible position in the league and we’ll try and get into the play-off and (automatic) promotion positions.”

Town will bid to answer what Lancashire termed the “million dollar question” and arrest a run of four successive home defeats when County head to Wiltshire tomorrow.

The visitors will be looking to complete a league double over Town after Jon Stead’s penalty separated the sides in the reverse fixture on September 12.

“It was a close game,” recalled Lancashire. “We’ll be working on a game plan to get a result and can be confident of doing that.”

And despite the discontent that continues to build in the stands, Lancashire paid tribute to the patience shown by Town supporters at the tail end of a calendar year that has also seen the club relegated to English football’s bottom tier.

“You’ve got to feel for the fans,” said the captain. “They come down here and expect a lot better.

“They see the results we’ve had away from home but here, it’s not happening.

“I can’t speak for everybody but it is a nice ground to play us and the fans have been with us.

“The fans could have been a lot worse with us, considering how many we have lost at home. There shouldn’t be any fear factor.”
