SWINDON Wildcats’ latest recruit Edgars Bebris says he has got up to speed with the rest of his teammates at the Link Centre.

Over the weekend, the 26-year-old hit the target twice in what was a four-point weekend for the Wildcats in domestic competition.

Bebris notched late on with the overtime winner in Saturday’s 5-4 win over Bracknell Bees at the Link Centre, before adding his second in the 5-0 triumph away to Milton Keynes Thunder a day later.

After leaving Coventry Blaze earlier this season, the 26-year-old says he took little time to pledge his allegiance to the Aaron Nell’s Wildcats.

“The move came about after I decided to leave Coventry. I had spoken to Aaron before, last season he was interested in getting me to play for his team,” said Bebris.

“After I left Coventry Blaze, he gave me the opportunity to play for his team, and play for Swindon, it was a pretty easy decision to make.

“I think I am now fully up to speed with my teammates.

“We are clicking more and on Saturday we had so many opportunities in the first period, but we didn’t score.

“We let them into the game a little bit but other than that, I think we are playing well as a team now.

“It is always nice to score an overtime winner.”

Tonight, the Cats have the chance to make their claim for a spot in the Autumn Trophy final when they tackle Peterborough Phantoms.

Having previously represented the Phantoms twice in recent years, Bebris is more than aware of what it takes to overcome the Cambridgeshire outfit.

“Obviously now we need to perform really well in every game.

“When we are playing against Basingstoke Bison and Peterborough Phantoms, they’re good teams so we can’t afford to drop our levels,” he added.

“I think we just need to play our game, and everything will be fine.

“We have a big cup semi-final on Thursday. I’m looking forward to that because it is a massive game and hopefully we can win.

“I know how difficult playing against Peterborough is, in that rink because of the boards. We just need to play and focus for 60 minutes to win.”
