SWINDON kept up the pressure on GoCrea8 League Conference North leaders West Wilts with a narrow 2-1 derby victory at Devizes on Saturday.

The visitors played with composure and class throughout the first half, but were unable to make the breakthrough but the game opened up after the break when Jim Towers, Thomas Hunt and Luke Cejer combined to send in Tom Lentschner, who broke into the circle and fired towards goal, where skipper Tom Goldsmith tapped home.

Devizes restored parity but with five minutes to go, Swindon capitalised on an uncharacteristic error from Devizes veteran Russ McQuillan, whose pass was expertly turned home by Lentschner for the winner.

Swindon then followed up with a hard-fought 4-3 home success over Team Bath Buccs B on Sunday.

Tom Wickens, John Scrase and skipper Goldsmith netted in the first half as Bath replied once. Bath hit a second after the break but Wickens’s second made it 4-2 before a late Bath reply.

Swindon Ladies suffered a damaging defeat in West Clubs League Premier Division 2A as they were soundly beaten 6-1 at home by Westberries on Saturday, Victoria Stokes netting.
